Experience the beauty of this exceptional work of art. Rabbi Steven Foster will provide detailed insight and inspire awe for this amazing masterpiece. The Moss Haggadahs are now out of print and the last copy sold for $35,000. A kosher charoset tasting will follow the program.
David Moss is one of today’s finest living Judaic artists. He describes himself as, “illuminator, animator and transformer of Jewish texts, objects and spaces.” He currently lives in Jerusalem and has a workshop located near the Jaffa Gate of the Old City. In the 1970s, Moss was instrumental in reviving the as a major work of art to be treasured by a married couple. He then turned to the illumination and illustration of Jewish texts.
In 1983, Moss was commissioned to create an individual, hand-made haggadah, in the tradition of the medieval illuminated manuscript. The Moss Haggadah became a splendid work created on vellum, containing paper cuts, gold and silver. It was reproduced in facsimile and also published in various trade printings. One volume of the Moss Haggadah contains the body of the haggadah, the other is an introduction and commentary. These volumes are extraordinary teaching and study pieces on the meaning of Passover.
