Creative Sundays Workshop: So You Think You Can’t Draw?!?!
As a contributor to the museum’s permanent exhibit, artist Deborah Howard, professor of art and head of the painting program at University of Denver, has had enormous success in helping people learn to draw, even in just a few classes. Learn to see in a completely new way while exploring the understanding of line, negative space, perspective, drawing from nature and still life from objects in the Mizel Museum collection. This workshop is for beginners or those looking to regain some drawing skills.

At the Table With Dr. King-pm
At the Table with Dr. King is a traveling event coming to Denver on February 12, 2013. To be held at Denver First Church of the Nazarene, the program calls students to action and service in their communities through multimedia, spoken word and live music performance. The program immerses students in the sights and sounds of the American Civil Rights Movement, focusing on a defining moment in the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. when he rose above his circumstances and responded to his unique call to action and service in his community. The performance features award-winning band Dave LeMieux and House of Soul, and American National Slam Poetry Champion Ayinde Russell. Two performances: 10:00 am and again at noon. A well-crafted story is a powerful tool for your message. This Storyshop Intensive with master storyteller, Sariel Beckenstein, teaches you how to unleash the power of your own story in your own words and with your own voice.
Think of Storyshop Intensive as a laboratory where you learn how to turn any story into a compelling, touching and motivating experience. This affordable three-part series provides a considerate, creative environment for you to learn the keys to creating a good story, how to craft it effectively and deliver your message simply, powerfully and movingly. The intensive will culminate in an inaugural Story Slam Performance for friends and family.
Sariel Beckenstein is the founder and creator of WEAVE. He is a passionate, seasoned performer, writer and trainer. His works include One Man’s Story, a one-man show and The Songs That I Schlepped. He worked on the film The Prince of Egypt and was script adviser for the award-winning The Emancipation of the Sassy Jewish Woman. Sariel is a former singer with the Cape Town Opera Company a lay cantor.

Miryam Brand Holocaust Education Film Project
On October 17, 18, and 19, 2012, Douglas Green will return with two new students from Carlsbad High in California to speak about their experience in learning about the Holocaust through the film We Must Remember, and the impact it has made in the way they perceive language and relationships. The seventy-five minute program will include a screening of the film and question and answer with the students and Mr. Green. For our sixth year of the program, the Mizel Museum will be “taking it on the road” in order to reach even more students. The Miryam Brand Holocaust Film Projectwill be hosted by schools around the Denver metro-area and beyond. We are also working with Regis University and The Denver Film Festival to make the program accessible to adults.

“We Must Remember” Screening
As part of the 2012 Miryam Brand Holocaust Education Film Project, this year’s film “We Must Remember” will be shown at Denver FilmCenter/Colfax, 2510 E. Colfax in Denver. “We Must Remember” is a documentary by teacher/documentary maker Douglas Green and students from California’s Carlsbad High School about their experiences studying the Holocaust, and the impact it has made in the way they perceive language and relationships. Price is $7.25 for members; $9.75 for non-members.
