Circle of Artists Opening at Eloise May Library

The work of the Mizel Museum Circle of Artists will be on exhibit and for sale during the month of February at the Eloise May Library, 1471 South Parker Road, Denver. The artists study at the Mizel Museum under well-known Russian modernist painter Boris Shoshensky, whose paintings appear in many prestigious collections throughout the US and Europe.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Thursday, February 7, 4:30 to 6:30 pm at the library. The library is open Monday through Thursday, 9:00 am to 9:00 pm, Friday and Saturday, 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, and Sunday from 1:00 to 5:00 pm.

Beginning in 2013 the Mizel Museum will be open on the first Sunday of every month for exhibit tours, storytelling hour for children and the new One Nosh Cafe.

I Never Saw Another Butterfly: Staged Readings by Our Youth

In honor of International Holocaust Remembrance Day, Jefferson County Open School students will read excerpts from I Never Saw Another Butterfly, sharing the inspirational writing from the children detained at Terezin Concentration Camp. During this touching remembrance, artwork created by the children of Terezin will be shown and the readings will be underscored by traditional violin music.

A well-crafted story is a powerful tool for your message. This Storyshop Intensive with master storyteller, Sariel Beckenstein, teaches you how to unleash the power of your own story in your own words and with your own voice.

Think of Storyshop Intensive as a laboratory where you learn how to turn any story into a compelling, touching and motivating experience. This affordable three-part series provides a considerate, creative environment for you to learn the keys to creating a good story, how to craft it effectively and deliver your message simply, powerfully and movingly. The intensive will culminate in an inaugural Story Slam Performance for friends and family.

Sariel Beckenstein is the founder and creator of WEAVE. He is a passionate, seasoned performer, writer and trainer. His works include One Man’s Story, a one-man show and The Songs That I Schlepped. He worked on the film The Prince of Egypt and was script adviser for the award-winning The Emancipation of the Sassy Jewish Woman. Sariel is a former singer with the Cape Town Opera Company a lay cantor.

Klez Fest 6:30 pm

Party with Hal Aqua and The Lost Tribe, singer/songwriter Rabbi Joe Black, and Sheldon Sands’ world-class ensemble, the Boulder Klezmer Consort. You’ll hear eclectic blends of reggae, ska, hip-hop, funk, middle eastern grooves and more. It will be a wild night of high-energy music with the Merc’s cool vibes. Seating is limited. Two shows on December 24, 6:30pm and 9:00pm.

Dinner is served at the Mercury Café beginning at 5:30 pm. Tickets are $18. The 6:30pm show is sold out. Online ticket purchasing is no longer available. Tickets for the 9:00pm show can be purchased at the door. Please arrive early to purchase tickets.
